As you may or may not know, my father passed away earlier this year... In his day he was one hell of an athlete in all sports, but used his passion the most when it came to soccer... When it was time he decided to leave Quebec, where he grew up to attend the University of New Brunswick.... In his years there he accomplished more than most.. His UNB team won a couple Canadian University Championships, him being the goalie, as well as him bringing in the Canadian Male athlete of the year.... More than enough to brag about, but that just wasnt the kind of guy he was.. Actually it wasnt until after his death that i learned he actually had been asked to try out for the Canadian olympic team.....
Since his death, that has been one of the hardest things for me, I feel there was soo much we didnt express to eachother.. dont get me wrong we had a great relationship, but it was one where.. he knew i loved him, and i knew he loved me.. .. After his passing a lot of his former team mates came down to show their respects and it was then that i learned sooo much about him.. about their soccer teams and just his life.. the kind of guy he was back then... it really just made me wish i had more time to sit down with him and just talk.. talk about his life, talk about our life..
Every year around this time my parents would talk about one year making the trip back out east to see everyone, the old team mates, the campus... but it was always put off.. mostly due to the fact my dad wasnt much of a travler, well he didnt so much mind the idea of travelling but only if it was somewhere we could bring our two dogs along... wouldnt be fair to leave them home... what a guy!!!
Unfortunately his time came before we ever got to go back as a family... Well we are going, mum sis and I, he may not be coming along but he will definitely be there with us...
UNB is going to be doing something special before their mens soccer game on Saturday, and earlier that morning i myself am going to fill his roll and play between the posts for the alumni team, behind all his former team mates..
Its going to be a jam packed weekend, full of activities, events and emotions.... But it is one i wouldnt miss for the world....
I love you so much dad, i miss you, i am so sorry i didnt take the time to ask sooo much more, but when i see you again we will make sure we dont miss a thing!!!!!
R.I.P scruffs..
See you when i get there..!

Really nice Keith, I was also super impressed to hear all the stories from his mates aboutthe good ol days...try out for the national team. wow. so amazing. I bet it was nice to have you in the net for the game, prolly play alot like him, its all those net drills with the two ropes attached to the posts..Love that. I'm def gonna use those drills when I coach. Great story to hear, sometimes easier to tell when you write it down, Keep em coming son.
